WIP: Iron Warriors Tac Squads.

Hi guys, Just a short post today bringing you up to speed with progress on my two Tac Squads for the Iron Warriors project.

I'm very happy with how these Tac Marines are turning out, I've done the odd kit-bash and conversion just to make things a little different but mostly kept them standard out of the box.

Although all the Marines have Chevrons I've purposely kept them to a minimum so they don't overwhelm the silver and black colour scheme placing them in places such as knee pads shin plates and chest areas.

Horus Heresy Iron Warriors don't really need Vexillas as they re-group from gun fire no matter what the casualties but I think they look great and are very iconic so why not, Again I've used things laying around in this build as the banners were made from old coffee cup lids.

For the two Tac Sergeants I've used Deathguard and Sons of horus torsos again just to mix things up a tad, Really happy with the kit-bashed power weapon on the first sarg, The Mech hand is from a 40k Servitor and the weapon is a FW Power Axe.

Getting some paint on these mini's now to finish off the two squads.

Also got the last of the bases done including the ten i need for my Plasma support squad.

Magnetized: Dreadnought Drop Pod build.

Hi guys, I've been after one of these well frankly enormous Dread-Pods for a while now for my Iron Warriors Leviathan thinking not many parts equals easy build....yeah right.

This thing was straight up the single worst FW kit I've bought so far and now it's all built I'm still not happy with it, The fact the doors aren't spot on with the frame is so annoying but hey it's done now so I'll deal with it.... all I can say is I'm over the moon that my plans for this project don't include anymore lol, Don't get me wrong I love the aesthetics of Forge World miniatures but this model left me a little disappointed.

As you can see with the single marine for scale the Dreadnought Drop Pod is massive!!

I pinned the life out of this model at the six contact areas between the engine mount the three uprights and the base plate I then after gluing left it to dry overnight with elastic bands pulling everything together tight.

After wards I went around all the gaps filling them with greenstuff.

The Drop Pod comes with very weedy hinges which snap all the time (see face book and various forums it's a fact!) leaving you with a newly painted broken Pod...not good, So rather than having removable doors due to poor design  I thought I would magnetize them at the hinge point.

I used 3mm/2mm mags on the base plate and 5mm/2mm mags on the doors, The base plate magnets were easy to place just a bit of green stuff and press the magnet in then with a wet blade slice to clean it up job done.

The magnets on the doors were altogether different to attach as I had to make space for the magnet to sit perfectly, To do this I cut off the resin pin that sticks out of the door hinge and drilled a pilot hole in the centre with my biggest pin vice drill bit, After that I used my Dremel and carving burr bit to carefully create a hole large enough for the magnet to fit, Then all I needed to do was get all the polarity's right, Sorted.

So then guys a few more Tac's done to fill the ranks of the mighty Iron Warriors.

It's funny because as I paint more and add them to the growing number to me they start to look better and better, I think this is true of all projects once you go past a certain number of minis.

These guys to start with will be split into two ten man squads, I do have plans to max out one of the squads to twenty later on but thats way off  first things first two ten man Tac squads and a Plasma support squad, Anyway hope you like them.

Iron Warriors: Iron Circle Automata.

So then guys seems the new Iron Circle miniatures will be up for sale at next months Warhammer fest shame for me that I wont be attending (must get down to one of these events some day) but I'm sure it wont be too long before it's on sale for the masses.

Anyhow I'm in no rush to buy these fellas as I've already got loads of IW's minis to paint but when I do I'll opt for four of them to go along with Pturbo as his personal body guard.

Got to say that I'm loving the aesthetics of this miniature which are clearly based on the Mechanicum's Domitar Battle Automata which is no bad thing as they are also great.

Nice to see the IV transfer on the breast plate  (bit like my Contemptor, could i be a trendsetter ;)  and think I'll do the same, Paint job's ok but base is a tad boring, I'm borderline with the chevrons on this mini i think anymore and it's too much having said that it's a big old mini and you need to break up all that silver some how.

Looking forward to getting my hands on these Awesome machines...Iron Within.

Unboxing: Imperial Knights Renegade.

Hi guys, Well then Imperial Knight miniatures from Games Workshop (Warhammer) and Forge World have been around for ages know and although I've always wanted to own and paint one there's often been it seems more important models to purchase for me.....until now.

So then on with the unboxing and I've got to say this box set is terrific value as are alot of deals GW have on in store at the moment, You essentially get a Knight and terrain piece for twenty five pounds and further reductions can be had from independent retailers so quids in.

You get all the sprues you need for two Knights to make both the Errant and Paladin one of each or two of the same it's up to you, Also a separate Warden sprue but just one of these plus you get the bases and the smallest transfer sheet known to man...not so good.

For the little extra touch you also find the Sanctum Imperialis terrain piece...why not, and all the instructions.

So then the game...will anyone be playing it or like me and see this set as a cheap way of buying Knights, Whatever your motive there is a game here I've had a slight look in the rule book (not bothered really) which isn't many pages thick missions etc so I think would be quite easy to pick up if that's your thing, You do get a couple of A4 Knight damage cards which look good and your probably better to get those laminated if your serious about the game.

Event Exclusive Miniature.

Hi guys, This little mini is doing the rounds all over the interweb and seems like it's the new Event mini on sale at this years Warhammer Fest.

Looks like he's a generic Siege Breaker and with a few twists could make a great IW's Breaker for my HH project although I'll be paying through the nose for it as I aren't going to the event sob...ebay take my money sob, Strange that it looks like he's on a 32mm base, Do like the chest plate it reveals more of the face which I will change but yeah love it...it shall be mine :)

So then fellas I thought it was about time that I went along to one of these events and why not pop my cherry on the biggest one this year.

Really looking forward to it as it's only two weeks away now, a little bit giddy, and got my ticket through the post yesterday, Expect loads of photo's from displays and mini's from the Forge World seminar...what will be in the pipe next 30k wise.

Yet another event mini that I'll be picking up now ...hands off my money ebay, Lovely looking mini this He's Tylos Rubio really like how understated he is so unfussy and great paint job to boot.

WIP: My Boys Imperial Knight.

Hi guys, I've been asked to build and paint this Imperial Knight for my son that he got for his birthday, He's seen daddy buy a couple of Renegade boxsets and asked where he's is at....tut tut bad dad, My little guy knows I'm the worlds slowest painter but is still fine with it so my own Knights will have to go on hold till I get this one out the way...that sounds really bad lol, I'm not going to drag my feet over it now and will see it as practise for my own Knight House as I've not painted one before.

The mini me project started by building the base up as I do for my Iron Warriors, Same theme Scorched Earth/Wasteland type, It's what I'll be doing for House Makabius when I get around to it....all practise you see.

I then built the model as a Paladin at my sons request stuck it to the base and primed it black, Then using two Tamiya silvers gunmetal and flat aluminum sprayed the mini at 45/65 degree angles to create a natural shading on the model.

The arms were done with the same method, Next step will be to finish the Knight skeleton with washes and powers picking out the odd detail and of course paint the base.

Not sure right now which house this Knight will belong to but my sons says he likes the look of the one on the front cover 40k Imp Knight codex so green then, We will see.

Warhammer Fest: Sokar Pattern Stormbird.

Wow!, Yet another big release at this years Warhammer Fest as the Sokar Pattern Stormbird thunders in.

It's going to be available in limited quantities first at the Fest and is rumoured to cost around £600 to £650 which is a tad rich for my pocket, Wonder if the tile comes with it anyhow think I would rather a Titan for that price.

The model looks ok but cant help thinking that it looks a bit of a mash up of the Thunderhawk/Stormeagle kind.

Warhammer Fest 2016: Blood Bowl and more.

Hi guys, Well it wasn't all Seminar down at the fest there was lots of waiting in queues and disappointment at till's, Only joking but 40 Iron Circle mini's on sale the whole day ...what you playing at guys.

First up Blood Bowl looks like it's coming back either at the end of this year or early next, Really looking forward to it's release the miniatures look great as does the board which was made from taking a photo from the original terrain board that they built and painted.

Here's all the kit you get plus the board I talked of....not this one though.

There was a rather large terrain piece with miniatures posed showcasing the new Stormbird (£750 and was told three for sale...wtf?).

Of particular interest to me were these two miniatures, First up this Mechanicum gunship a beautiful looking miniature and a decent size not too large but certainly isn't small, I was told that the model was ready and may be up for sale in a couple of months...so 17th July then??...we shall see.

Secondly this total beast of an Imperial Knight, Wow the size is unreal! ...totally love it and has got to be mine at all costs, I was thinking of adding a Lancer and maybe another FW Knight to the two Renegade sets I bought for house Makabius but yeah this one would be the centre piece to top off that project.

All in all we had a great day and are looking forward to 17th July at Forge worlds open day...I have tickets :)

....maybe one day son.

Iron Warriors: Iron Circle ...built x4.

Hi guys well it's been a while since my vist to Warhammer Fest and longer before I got cracking with these lovely miniatures ...shame on me.

Anyhow I've found a little time of late to knock these four fellas together and even got a bit of paint on one of them ......shocker!!, These minis where a joy to build with no trouble at all, I pinned the hammers because i thought they would snap off otherwise and left the shields off to paint separate.

So here are the Battle-Automata all built plus did a little extra detail on the bases.

Interesting comparison photo between the base coated mini right and finished metal look mini left.

SHOWCASE: Iron Warriors Tribune.

Hi guys this is the new Forge World Tribune mini that's up for sale at Games Workshop/Warhammer right now, Strange that FW are selling their wares down my local GW but I hope this trend if you can call it that continues.

Really like this miniature even though it's the wrong Mk of armour for IW's (my opinion) but I square that by telling myself the Tribune would opt for lighter tartaros pattern armour giving him more speed and agility in close combat.

I tweaked the miniature slightly by first removing the sword and adding a massive maul, very IW's, and also by changing the head to a helmeted warrior, I mean why would you go to battle without one?!?, and finally by placing the Iron Circle auto-mata emblem on the mini's chest plate.

....a few more photo's.

Iron Warriors: Iron Circle Bases.

Hi guys, well it seems a little strange to put up a post just to show off these four bases but it's my blog lol plus I'm over the moon with how they turned out.

The Iron Circle miniatures are quite large at the side of  Perturabo (by the way the boss man is on my bench!! but I wont be using that massive base for him, got it earmarked for something else) so instead of building the base up with cork as I have in the past with my other IW minis I've kept it as level as I could to the blank base by just adding some thin double diamond plastic sheet (1:24 G-scale) then modelling some detail around it to give it that war torn battlefield look.

Interesting before photo of the bases, You can see all the bits n bobs I've used ...the deck plate as mentioned, a bit off a GW building set, sand, small stones and cork! where would I be without cork the stuffs great as is Vallejo red oxid paste.

Tickets! Forge World open day 17th July 2016.

Well then fellas I've got the bug for this FW sneak peek thing and as before if I can I'll be bringing you some photos of the event next week.

I'm also looking forward to seeing the new displays and maybe getting a bite to eat at Bugmans.

At long last I've got this guys base sorted, I'm very happy with this kit-bash and I'm sure my Iron Warriors will be as well when I get their Master of Signal all painted up, Time for the primer I think.

And finally the big guy, I've owned this fella for months now but just had him in his box under my bench tut tut, With the purchase of the four IC auto-mata I though it was time to dust it off and get cracking with him.

He is a beast of a miniature as is his base but I wont be using that I just think it's too big besides I have it earmarked for something else later on.

Hi guys, Well I've finally found the time to sort this little fella out, Seems he's been on the to do pile of months now....as are a shed load of other minis but I'll get to those later.

I'm really liking this kit-bash especially the pose and base, I wasn't keen at first but the twin aerials have grown on me.

I've gone for a underslung bolter even though the miniatures stats dont have the option for one (artistic license) I think it looks the part and I'm happy with it. Again more Army Painter razorwire added to the base...hope I'm not overdoing it I'll maybe ease off with it on the cannon fodder.

A few more pic's.

Forge World Open Day: 17th July 2016.

Hi guys, Well I had a great trip down to Nottingham to visit Forge Worlds open day only wish I felt a bit better, been ill you see so didn't stay long but anyway enough of that on with the visit.

First thing I wanted was the new Legiones Astartes army list book, I spent the extra tenner (they saw me coming) for the collectors black edition with the metal ends..if that's what you call them.

Not had that much time to look through but have noticed that my Land Raider Proteuses of which I have three are down to 180pts but don't have the option for the hull-mounted multi-melta anymore but do have the option for twin-linked heavy bolter/flamer or Lascannon so I'll deal with it.

Loving the look of the new Arachnus heavy lascannon Deredeo, Not so sure of the shield generator on top of the auto-cannon Deredeo but I'm told that it gives +1 to invulnerable saves to mini's within 6" to a 3+ max...sounds good yeah.

Interesting alternative Imp Knight heads, May have to pimp up my half built Knights a tad.

Legion Moritat.

Beautiful,  It's outrageous how Forge World keep producing these works of art....just take my money.

Very interested in these Secutarii upgrades, I bought a couple of the "Start Collecting Skitarii" box sets from Games Workshop....sorry I mean Warhammer back when they were first released, They Should look the part with maybe a Scout Titan or two later on, Well I can wish anyway.

That's it for now guys Cheers.

Armies on Parade: 2016.

Hi guys, Are any of you partaking in this years Armies on Parade.

I missed out last year due to family holiday but did attend the event the year before in 2014, It was my first time at AoP and I left things to the last minute so didn't have many miniatures on the tile but it was a great day down at Leeds GW (Warhammer).

This was the effort back in 2014 my much loved 40k Scythes of the Emperor on martian bases and tile, Never did get that martian sand to look right and the board is pretty sparse, If i do take part i hope that my next effort will look lots better plus it gives me inspiration to sort out all those half finished units.

Well fellas there's around ten weeks if your up for it, Good luck.

Hi guys at long last I've finished the big guy.

I'm very happy with how it turned out and he looks the business next to other painted Iron Warriors, I'll have to get a group photo up of them soon but I'll wait till there's a few more first.

I'm particularly cuffed with it's base detail and have carried on with the same heat burn on this guys gun barrels as I have on the Contemptor I painted earlier in the year.

Well that's it, Hope you like it fellas....next up on the bench a second Contemptor and finally the finished Tac Squad (about time!!).

WIP: Iron Warrior Contemptor No2.

Well guys though I would show you a bit of progress of my second Iron Warriors Contemptor.

Most of the hard work is done, soaking of the resin (sometimes for days, does my head in) posing and gluing together, base, guns, basecoats etc all that stuff finished just the colouring in to go now.....the best bit!

Very happy with the pose of this monster, I see the Dread slowly walking down some narrow war torn street putting holes in things left and right as he goes, all grim dark thoughts hear folks.

I did his base a while ago and can't wait to get the fella stuck to it, it's the one on the left the other was for my Leviathan.

Anyway guys should have this mini done soon... famous last words may take six months if you know me, I am a tad lazy ;)
